Just out of curiosity, I decided to see how many letters from the song title "Put Down the Duckie" I would have to type in YouTube's search window for the full title to come up as a suggestion.
When I got to "put d," three of the top ten suggestions referred to the song ("put down the duckie," "put down the ducky" and "put down the duckie sesame street").
Well, having gone to all that effort, Here Be (temporarily) Discarded Duckie:

Since its founding on 18 February 2008, Eutopolis is doing well, currently ranked at #2042 of all MiniCities in the United States. If anyone reading this wants to help Eutopolis grow, the best thing to do is to click on the link above to see what Eutopolis needs. Here's our current status:
unemployment=0 transport=100 criminality=1 pollution=0
bases com="0" env="41" ind="213" sec="97" tra="118"
Once you have checked Eutopolis' current status, I ask that you follow the guidelines posted below:
If Unemployment >0, add industry
If Transport <100, add transportation
If Criminality >0, add security
If Pollution >0, add new parks
By contrast, a US-based MiniCity with a Population of 1 is currently ranked at #149149 (I created a new MiniCity just to find this out). I don't intend to reveal the name of my new MiniCity any time soon, as I want to see how far it can climb with only my input.

Today (Father's Day here in the States), all of Major League Baseball is showing blue to raise awareness of prostate cancer.
( Cut because of uncharacteristic blue language )
Meanwhile, the Redbirds, led by Prince Albert's grand slam in the fourth inning, made the KC Royals feel blue today, winning 12-5. Not only did the Cardinals sweep the three-game series, today's victory was also manager Tony LaRussa's 2,500th win as a manager.
UPDATE: Prof Reynolds gives us a link to a Mayo Clinic article about an experimental treatment for aggressive prostate cancer:

Not bad.
1. As a Saint Louisan, I'm glad that the Carpetbaggers lost.
2. As a Rams fan, I'm glad that Kurt Warner had a good game (I always thought that getting rid of Warner was a bad decision by the Rams management).
3. As a football fan, I was pleased to see a game that wasn't a blowout.
As a current Arizona resident, though, I rather suspect that at least some of my coworkers will be less than pleased by the outcome of this game.

Last week, I finally got paid for Annual Training (which I performed in early June). With my bank account flush with extra cash (I had already weathered the civilian Pay Period Without Pay), I've spent several days looking online (and at various brick-and-mortar stores) for a nice, modern replacement for my 5-year-old Sony VAIO. I found my new machine at Best Buy (we actually have one here in Sorry Vista!). After diligent research on the merits of the Q9300 processor over its AMD rivals and Intel peers, I determined that the Gateway FX4710-UB003A was just the ticket.
Key features of my new, as-yet-unnamed computer include the following:
Core2 Quad Q9300 processor (2.5 GHz, 6MB L2 cache) 6GB PC2-5300 DDR2 memory 580GB hard drive (not including the recovery partition)* Gateway 24" LCD monitor @1920x1200 resolution (once I get a tuner card, I'm ready for some HDTV!) NVIDIA 9800 GT video card w/512MB of graphics memory Vista Home Premium 64-bit with SP1
As for my VAIO? Well, it gets to soldier on as my television and (for now) stereo....
ETA: Yes, the choice of userpic was a deliberate pun....
*The Web site says that the hard drive is 640GB, but Windows disagrees....

...Life goes on.
I hadn't posted yet in June 2008, so I figured I'd do so, at least to let y'all know that, like Papillon, "I'm still here!"

The Redbirds took two out of three from the LA Dodgers this weekend, wrapping up a 4-2 road trip.

It's a shame that starting pitcher Randy Johnson (a.k.a. "Big Unit") and reliever J.J. Putz aren't on the same team....
Meanwhile, regardless of how Sunday's game goes against the Giants, the Redbirds will have a winning road record as they end their first road trip of the season. Not too shabby for a team that, with four starting pitchers on the DL on Opening Day (2005 Cy Young Award winner Chris Carpenter, Matt Clement, Mark Mulder and Joel Pineiro), was presumed dead on arrival by the ESPN punditocracy.
ETA: Whenever I look at a box score and see that some pinch-hitter struck out, popped out or grounded out for another player, I always imagine the other player thinking "Hell, I could have done that!"

This one is neither as bizarre nor as long as last week's video. It's a Half-Life 2 video, set to Trey Parker's "Freedom Isn't Free":

I've decided to complement gridlore's Heavy Metal Sunday with my own Friday Fanvid Fest. My first entry is a fairly bizarre Tom and Jerry cartoon, synched to King Crimson's "The Court of the Crimson King":

I have decided to launch a new blog:
AuricTech Musings
Be warned, though: AuricTech Musings is where I'm likely to discuss my views on matters political.
OTOH, this will help me keep my LJ as a politics-free (or at least a politics-light) zone.
